Remembrance practices, from the funeral or memorial service to permanent memorialization, serve an important emotional function for survivors by helping to bring closure and allowing the healing process to begin. It provides a focal point for memorializing the deceased.
When an interment right is purchased a portion is set aside for the care and maintenance of the cemetery. This amount can be up to 40% depending on the interment right chosen. The cemetery uses the interest from this account for property care and maintenance. The principal continues to grow and is not used for care and maintenance. This way cemetery property may be cared for in perpetuity (forever).
